Officials Warn of Risks to Ending Gun Permits

Federal law requires federally licensed gun dealers to conduct background checks for pistol purchases, but new legislation would drop state rules requiring purchase permits when buying handguns from private sellers.

Michigan officials are concerned that revoking current pistol registration, permit and background check requirements will affect police investigations and increase gun violence.
